Early Childhood Development Program

"The Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Early Childhood Development program at UA - Pulaski Technical College is accredited by the Commission on the Accreditation of Early Childhood Higher Education Programs of the National Association for the Education of Young Children, The accreditation terms runs from July 2014 through July 2021."

The Early Childhood Development Program prepares students by providing them a variety of program options. Students can choose the option that best fits their personal goals. The Certificate of Proficiency meets the requirements to take the national CDA assessment. The Technical Certificate prepares students to work as an aide in an early childhood classroom. The AAS degree plan contains the courses for the Birth through Pre-Kindergarten Teaching Credential. The state trainings – Pre- K ELLA, INDEX, Frameworks, and SEL – are embedded in the regular courses offered in the teaching credential. This teaching credential allows a student to work in a non-public prekindergarten classroom, a Head Start or Early Head Start classroom, or as a para-professional in a public school classroom. With this degree a student may also transfer to a four-year institution to acquire a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Development.

This program is designed to allow students to progress through the courses at their own pace. The classes are offered at a variety of times to meet the needs of those students who are already employed in the field.

The Early Childhood Lab School/Little Learners Academy participates in the Arkansas Better Beginnings Program. The center serves as a place for the education students to fulfill requirements for courses in the program. The lab school’s staff is educated in the field and trained to mentor students.

UA-PTC has grants from the University of Arkansas to offer noncredit training to meet the needs of child care providers. These training sessions are offered at times and locations convenient to working professionals. For additional information, visit the TAPP Registry website.
