Section 5: Paying for Classes

Financial Aid

Types of Financial Aid

  • Scholarships and Waivers
  • Federal financial aid includes Pell Grants, Work-study, and subsidized/unsubsidized student loans.

Taking out a loan?

Before applying for a loan, it's suggested that you explore the different student grants and scholarship opportunities (see scholarships below) available which offer money that doesn't need to be paid back.

Applying for Federal Student Aid

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is an application completed by current and prospective students every academic year (as long as they are in school) to determine their eligibility for federal aid (federal loans, grants, and work-study). Frequently asked questions about financial aid and loans are available at www.uaptc.edu/finaid-faq.

Applying for aid is easy! Simply follow these four steps:

Step 1: Create an FSA ID (used to log into the U.S. Department of Education online systems).

While completing the FAFSA application:

  • You will be asked to provide your income information. We strongly encourage you to use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool option to upload your tax information. This will be a faster process for you, and lessen the amount of paperwork you may have to submit in the future.
  • UA - Pulaski Tech’s school code is 014167

Step 2: After completing your FAFSA application, check your UA-PTC student e-mail account 3-5 days after for instructions on how to access the UA-PTC Financial Aid Portal.

Step 3: After accessing the UA-PTC Financial Aid Portal:

  • Review the "Documents" tab and complete/submit any required documents.
  • Monitor your student e-mail account for an award notice and complete your online award letter through the financial aid portal.

The online award letter must be submitted indicating the following:

  • Intent to accept or decline the loan as awarded.
  • Intent to reduce loan amount as awarded. (optional)

Step 4: For your subsidized/unsubsidized loan to pay, make sure you have completed the following:

Once the UA-PTC Office of Financial Aid receives your completed Master Promissory Note and receives notice that your Entrance Loan Counseling (if needed) has been completed, loan funds are transmitted to your student account on the dates set by UA-PTC according to your loan period, and in accordance with federal regulations.

Keeping Your Financial Aid

  • You must do your part as a student to “earn” your financial aid.
  • If you do not, you may lose your eligibility for funds and have to repay funds.

Here’s how to keep your aid:

  1. Go to class and complete assignments.
  2. Pass the majority of the classes you enroll in.
  3. Be sure you know exactly what classes you need to complete your degree.
  4. If you are having problems in classes, reach out!

Scholarships

Foundation Scholarships

Every semester, the UA-PTC Foundation Office offers both general and degree specific scholarships to students through an application process. Deadlines and information on the process are posted in The Sparkle (student newsletter), UA-PTC social media platforms, UA-PTC app, and on the foundation scholarship webpage at www.uaptc.edu/foundation/scholarships.

The application process is available at the link above. In addition to filling out applications, students need to upload an essay, their mid-semester grade report, financial aid summary, and a letter of recommendation from a UA-PTC faculty or staff member.
