On Thursday, Aug. 1, UA – Pulaski Tech welcomed community and business leaders and educators to a captivating open house showcasing the college's Youth Tech Sciences Camps. The event provided an exclusive glimpse into the dynamic learning environment and presents 10th, 11th, and 12th graders a hands-on chance to explore the worlds of technology and science.

Attendees included Senator Jane English from the Arkansas General Assembly, Bill Fitzgerald of Lexicon Steel, Jessica Halbrook and Devin Bradley from Garver engineering consultants, as well as two members of the UA-PTC Board of Visitors, Little Rock Port Authority Director Bryan Day, and Lisa Farrell, CEO and founder of real estate development corporation Rockwater Village. College administration and faculty were represented by Chancellor Summer DeProw; Dean of Technical and Professional Studies, Angela Kremers; and Vice Chancellor for Advancement and Director of the UA-PTC Foundation Melissa Hendricks. Tours were led by Technical Sciences Coordinator Bruce Thomas.

“We sincerely appreciate the sponsors and donors who provided funds and guidance to make these learning opportunities possible,” said Vice Chancellor Hendricks. “Our close relationships with employers enable us to keep the curriculum relevant to future careers close to home.”

The group toured the facilities and hands-on activities demonstrated by students in the camp sessions. From the precision of welding to the intricacies of drafting, the camp showcased a diverse range of technical skills that are essential for today’s workforce.

“We are thrilled to open our doors to the community and share our passion for STEM education,” said Chancellor DeProw. “Our Youth Tech Sciences Camps are designed to inspire young people to pursue careers in these vital fields, and this open house is an effort to show the sponsors of the camps the momentum we are developing. This is a testament to our commitment to fostering the next generation of innovators.”

The event highlighted the five camp offerings: Welding, Drafting, Advanced Manufacturing, Electrical Systems, and HVAC. Each program provides students with practical experience and a solid foundation for future academic and professional success.

As the open house concluded, attendees expressed enthusiasm for the camp’s potential to ignite young minds and prepare them for the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century. UA-PTC invites interested students to expect more opportunities in the summer of 2025.
