Dr. Rick Barker begins new role as UA-PTC Technical Science Director
Dr. Rick Barker joined the faculty at University of Arkansas Pulaski Technical College July 3 as the UA-PTC Main Campus Technical Science Director and Advanced Manufacturing Lead.
Dr. Barker was most recently an instructional facilitator at Black River Technical College in Pocahontas, Arkansas, where he was lead instructor of advanced manufacturing and machining. He has extensive experience in both public and private sectors, working in advanced technology, CNC Programming/Machining, machine shop, fabrication, and hydraulics, as well as business management, sales, marketing, product development, and other leadership roles. His professional experience includes stints at ECA Technologies, NEA Hydraulics and Machine, Ace Tool & Manufacturing, and Arkansas Department of Education, Division of Career and Technical Education.
Dr. Barker is looking forward to engaging with students. "Success is not just about achieving your goals; it's also about the growth, learning, and relationships you cultivate along the way," he said.
Dr. Barker earned a Bachelor of Science in Technology Administration and Technology Management from Arkansas State University and a Master’s Degree in Career and Technical Administration at Arkansas State University. He received his doctorate from National University in 2019 where his research focused on innovation and technology management with an emphasis in engineering management.
“The college’s industry partners look to us for high-quality, skilled employees who can prepare students for high-skill jobs,” said UA – Pulaski Tech Dean of Technical and Professional Studies Angela Kremers. “Dr. Barker’s extensive experience and industry certifications in both technical education and the private sectors give him the competencies and knowledge needed to prepare our students to go to work.”
