Port of Little Rock leader Bryan Day joins UA-PTC Board of Visitors
The appointment of Bryan Day of Little Rock to the UA-PTC Board of Visitors was announced by Gov. Asa Hutchinson on Dec. 21. His term extends until July 1, 2029. Mr. Day replaces Bonnie Davis, whose term expired in 2022.
Bryan Day has been involved with state and local government for over thirty years. The positions he has held have allowed him to focus on building and strengthening communities.
Day was appointed Executive Director of the Little Rock Port Authority in June 2014. The Little Rock Port Authority's mission is to "drive economic development by providing a world-class transportation hub that connects Arkansas to the global economy.”
“I am honored to be appointed to the UA - Pulaski Technical College Board of Visitors by Gov. Hutchinson,” Day said. “I look forward to working with my fellow board members and the College administration to build upon what is already an excellent institution. As central Arkansas strives to create a qualified workforce to expand our economic development efforts, UA-PTC is well suited to take the lead in these efforts. I am looking forward to being a part of that movement.”
Prior to assuming this position, he spent 20 years working for the City of Little Rock. During this tenure, he served as the Assistant City Manager and Director of Little Rock Parks and Recreation. Bryan started his career in government in 1987 when he was hired by the Arkansas State Park system.
As the Little Rock Port Authority Executive Director, Day works closely with industry located within the 4,000-acre industrial park and oversees the Port Authority Railroad, which is served daily by the Union Pacific and Burlington Northern Railroads. Additionally, Bryan oversees the Industrial and Slackwater Harbors, which can handle up to 200 inbound and 300 outbound tons of freight per hour and Foreign Trade Zone 14 located at the Port of Little Rock. In 2018, the Port of Little Rock moved approximately 9,000 rail cars and 900,000 tons of river cargo.
He serves as a member of the St. Louis Federal Reserve Transportation Advisory Council, the Arkansas District Export Council, and is a board member on the Arkansas Oklahoma Port Operators Association and the Central Arkansas Library Foundation. Bryan is an Eagle Scout and serves on the Board of the Quapaw Area Council. In 2017, Bryan was appointed as a charter member of the Arkansas State Parks and Recreation Foundation. Bryan has long been active in the local community, having served on a number of boards and commissions.
Day received his undergraduate degree and Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
He has a daughter who is currently a nurse at Northwestern Hospital in Chicago, a son who is a loan officer with First Service Bank of Arkansas, and one spoiled Labrador Retriever.
In his spare time, Bryan loves to hike and camp and has visited many of America’s greatest national parks; however, he mostly enjoys wandering through the parks and wilderness areas found in his home State of Arkansas.
“Bryan is a leader who understands the challenges and opportunities we face in Arkansas today," stated UA-PTC Chancellor Summer DeProw. "His broad experience and deep roots in the community will provide invaluable wisdom and guidance to UA – Pulaski Tech.”
University of Arkansas - Pulaski Technical College is advised by a seven-member Board of Visitors who are appointed by the Governor of the State of Arkansas. Each member serves a seven-year term and resides within the UA - Pulaski Tech service area.
