UA-Pulaski Tech to host STEM Day for teens

More than 235 middle and high school students will be on UA-PTC's Main Campus on Thursday, March 16, to learn about careers in science, technology, engineering and math as part of STEM Success' 4th annual STEM Day.
Activities will take place from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. in the college's Center for Humanities and Arts and in the IT building.
The students are from Central, Hall High, JA Fair, McClellan, Parkview, Jacksonville Middle and Jacksonville High, North Little Rock Middle, North Little Rock High, and Dunbar, Henderson, and Forest Heights Middle schools.
The students will rotate through workshops in robotics hosted by University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff ; LEGO engineering with LEGOMaster Lennon Parker; and Coding with UA-PTC Instructor Terence Cox. The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences will share summer opportunities for teens at UAMS, and UA-Little Rock and Arkansas Innovation Hub will have hands-on activities for youth. UA-PTC's admissions representatives also will talk with the high school students about preparing for college.
"It's never too early to introduce young people to the STEM fields and the many opportunities that are available to them later," said Richard Moss, director of UA - Pulaski Tech's STEM Success program. "These young people could be future doctors, engineers and scientists. We want to expose them to the fun aspects of creating and discovering so they have a broader understanding of what science and math can do for them. Hopefully, it will spark an interest to learn more and possibly lead them to consider a career in a STEM field."
