New UA-PTC HOSA chapter provides opportunity for future health care professionals
UA - Pulaski Tech has established the state's first post-secondary chapter of Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA). HOSA is a globally recognized, student-led organization dedicated to empowering future health professionals. With a mission to foster leadership, education, and collaboration, HOSA provides students with hands-on skill-building, mentorship, and access to vital resources.
Lindsey Fricks, director of clinical education for respiratory therapy, initiated the chapter to address the needs of students, particularly those who are first-generation college attendees.
"HOSA provides mentorship, scholarships, and career exploration," Fricks said. "It’s a support system that provides students with career exploration, scholarship opportunities, and a sense of belonging."
Student interest has been strong, with founding members focused on building a supportive community. The chapter will offer opportunities for skills development through competitions, financial aid access, career guidance, and leadership experience.
Recent attendees of the Arkansas HOSA State Conference, including founding members and advisors, reported gaining valuable insights. The chapter plans fundraising and engagement initiatives.
