UA Fayetteville, UA - Pulaski Tech work at streamlining money-saving UA transfers

July 22, 2024

Helping transfer students was the topic of discussion on the University of Arkansas - Pulaski Technical College campus Thursday as University of Arkansas Chancellor Charles Robinson was joined by six UA campus leaders in a visit to UA-PTC.

UA – Pulaski Tech Chancellor Summer DeProw, along with administrators and representatives from academic, student service, financial aid, recruiting and other college areas, hosted a round table discussion to nurture closer relationships with the state’s flagship four-year university.

The two institutions offer “2+2” agreements that enable students to transfer credits and even tuition rates from the two-year to the four-year university. The Arkansas Transfer Achievement Scholarship reduces tuition rates for students who graduate with associate’s degrees from any of the two-year colleges in the University of Arkansas System and then transfer to the University of Arkansas - Fayetteville campus.

The scholarship will enable any student who earns an associate’s degree at UA – Pulaski Tech to transfer to the University of Arkansas to work toward a bachelor’s degree, while continuing to pay the same basic credit hour tuition they paid at UA-PTC. Seventy-six students have benefitted from the scholarship since the fall of 2019.

“At UA-PTC’s current tuition rates, a student who transfers from UA-PTC to UA under this agreement will save thousands of dollars before other forms of financial aid are applied,” said Chancellor DeProw. “We plan to have future round table discussions with both UA-PTC and UA alumni, staff, and faculty. Our overall goal is to make a smooth transition for our students to Fayetteville with a support network.”

Additionally, the two institutions have streamlined degree plans such as the Associate of Science in Business, Associate of Science in Technology and Engineering to BS in Biomedical Engineering, and AS in Technology and Engineering to BS in Biological Engineering.

“We share a common vision of supporting students in their aspirations and we want to work seamlessly together,” said Chancellor Robinson. “This is part of both of our missions in support of the state of Arkansas, to do whatever we can to facilitate access to higher education.”
