Basic Self-Defense Series

Students will learn basic self-defense ways to defend against unarmed and armed attacks. There will also be some instruction in using improvised weapons. Children ages 7 and up may register with an adult who has also registered.

Contemporary Illustrations for Teens (Ages 13-17)

Students will explore various contemporary illustration techniques using a combination of handmade and technology-based mediums. Students will keep a research journal and learn about current illustrators and designers working in the field. Students will create various functional products, books, stickers, fabric, and prints.

Series: Tune Up Your French: Conversation and Culture

If you are among the many people who studied some French in high school, college, or even beyond but still get stuck when it comes to actually speaking the language, this course is for you. Discover the perfect expression for any situation. Gain essential insights on eating and drinking, shopping, manners, travel, and humor. You should also expect a stereotype-busting introduction to history (colonization and decolonization), culture, cultural history, and literature, via sauces and cheese.

Session 1: Pronounce the French Way: French takes more energy than pronouncing English. Learn the essentials of French pronunciation and intonation. Topics: Liaisons; Enchainment; Statements Become Questions Through Change of Intonation; Using Your Nose as Well as Your Mouth; Nonverbal Cues; Sound Effects and Interjections.

3-Part Stained Glass Series at the Glass from the Past Studio in Searcy, AR 

Students will come learn from the stained glass masters in Searcy, AR at Glass from the Past, Glass Studio. In this hands-on series various cutting and foiling techniques will be explored as each participant creates a truly original 11”x14” piece of art.

Learn how to make your own one-of-a-kind, farmhouse wreath! Join the owner of Emily's Flowers and Gifts, located in Lonoke, AR, and wreath expert, Lorin Geisler, in this fun, hands-on workshop that is great for the novice or skilled wreath maker. Each student will be exposed to various materials and techniques, and be guided through the step-by-step process. The result will be a high quality, hand-crafted wreath that you can take home and enjoy for years to come.

Introduction to Weaving and Sewing Series

Session 2: Coiled Basket Weaving

In this workshop participants will reinterpret the ancient technique of coiling using modern materials easily found in the hardware and yarn store. Create vibrantly patterned, sturdy, heirloom quality bowls and vessels. Students will be encouraged to bring materials specific to their vision for their project.

Superheroes and Sidekicks

 

Sidekick kids bring your Superhero adult to paint their portrait! Kids and adults will paint a portrait of the other. Join artist, art teacher, and owner of Matthew’s Studio, Callie Matthews, as she guides students through the process of creating a masterpiece! Students will focus on the basics of the human face and body, using visual cues to communicate who the person is (example: what is your person’s favorite outfit? What could they be holding? What could go in the background? etc). Simple color mixing and color schemes. A child must be accompanied by an adult. An adult can bring up to 2 children. Age 7 and up.

Apprentice Beekeeping

UA-PTC is partnering with the Midwest Master Beekeeper Program to offer Apprentice Bee Keeping! This class will focus on the principles of beekeeping which include: the history of beekeeping, honeybee biology, plant and pollinator relationships, and essential equipment and requirements.

The Midwest Master Beekeeper certification program consists of six levels: Beginner Beekeeper, Apprentice Beekeeper, Journeyman Beekeeper, Junior Master Beekeeper, Master Trainer, and Master Beekeeper. By the end of this first course, individuals will be able to help experienced beekeepers in the management of hives.

The $61 registration fee for this course includes the class and a beekeeping book used as a study guide for examinations. The class is taught by an experienced local beekeeper.

Stained Glass Basics: A Taste of Stained Glass

Join Stained Glass expert and owner of Glass from the Past, located in Searcy Arkansas for a hands-on class, where students will learn the basics of how to create stained glass. Students will explore foiling techniques and will leave with a 7” hand-crafted stained glass square. This is a great introduction into the world of stained glass!

A Twist on Mosaics

Just in time for the Fourth of July, learn how to make a beautiful piece of art! In this class students will create the American flag by learning how to nip glass in order to make mosaics. Each student will leave with a custom 8”x8” framed, mosaic glass picture.

Have you thought of learning how to apply Henna? This is an in-depth introduction to henna. It will cover a brief henna history & traditions, different kinds of henna, how to apply henna safely, how to obtain a dark & long lasting stain, mixing henna basics, application techniques, and design and art techniques. Each participant will receive a complete henna kit with all the supplies needed to keep creating long after the class has ended.
