UA - Pulaski Tech faculty member Matt Sides earns prestigious FAA certification
UA-PTC is celebrating a significant achievement for its Aerospace Technology program. Faculty member Matt Sides recently earned his U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Aviation Administration Inspection Authorization (IA) Certification. This is a major accomplishment that not only recognizes Sides' expertise but also elevates the quality of education for students in the program.
The IA is a highly sought-after credential for aircraft maintenance technicians. It's a special privilege granted by the FAA to individuals who already hold an Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) license. Earning this certification is an extremely rigorous process, requiring at least three years of active experience as a licensed A&P mechanic, an interview with the FAA, and the successful completion of a challenging knowledge test.
With his new IA, Matt Sides can now conduct annual aircraft inspections, oversee progressive inspections, and approve major repairs and alterations for return to service. This advanced skill set is vital for ensuring the safety and airworthiness of aircraft.
"UA-PTC is proud of the exceptional knowledge and experience our faculty continue to obtain while teaching," said Dr. Angela Kremers, dean of technical and professional studies. "Matt is a great example of going above and beyond to ensure students have a high-quality experience building competencies for industry and for their degree completion."
Matt Sides' achievement reflects the program's commitment to providing students with a hands-on education from instructors who are at the top of their field. As the demand for certified aircraft maintenance technicians continues to grow, having faculty with this level of expertise is a significant benefit for students pursuing careers in aviation maintenance.
The UA-PTC Aerospace Technology Center is an FAA-approved Part 147 Maintenance School, offering programs that lead to FAA Airframe and Powerplant licenses. This recent accomplishment by one of their own faculty members reinforces the college's dedication to high-quality aviation maintenance education.
