Business and Industry Center partnership boosts local manufacturing workforce
UA-PTC Business and Industry Center partnered with manufacturing industries to coordinate an initiative to train and retain safe, productive, and profitable employees.
During the development/design phase of this consortium project, participating manufacturers completed a survey to determine the critical areas needed in the initial training phase. The group identified two primary focus areas: Millwright and Industrial Electricity. UA-PTC Business and Industry Center customized a training package to meet the specific needs of the participating companies.
The millwright and electrical training, which consisted of 96 hours of hands-on training, was customized for Ring Container, Welspun and Skippy Foods. The class met for 12 weeks and included extensive training in industrial electricity, hydraulics, circuits, machine installation, belt and chain drive with industrial mathematics integrated throughout the curriculum.
UA-PTC assisted the companies with securing grants from The Office of Skills Development to assist the businesses with training costs. The grants were awarded at 75% for the millwright and electrical classes.
