Michelle Anderson selected Dean of Students at UA – Pulaski Tech
Michelle Anderson has accepted the newly-created position of Dean of Student Life and Wellness at University of Arkansas Pulaski Technical College. She begins June 16.
The position is responsible for departments and activities related to student life, engagement, and wellness. Dean Anderson will supervise the departments of Counseling and Disability Services, the Testing Center, and Student Activities Coordinator. The Dean of Students is also responsible for the following major duties and functions:
- Title IX Coordinator and member of the Title IX compliance team
- Administrator overseeing student complaints and appeals
- Facilitates UA-PTC Ambassador selection and support
- Maintains Student Handbook
- Manages the food pantry
- Leads and represents student life and wellness in the day-to-day operations, ensuring safety of students, consistency of practice, transparent and consistent communication, and implementation of high-impact student success strategies
- Facilitates student organizations
- Assists with new student orientation in partnership with the Provost and Academic Advising Center
- Assumes responsibility for establishing a college experience that promotes respect for students
- Assures the college’s strategic objectives of student life and wellness are met through robust assessment
- Maintains responsibility for utilizing data, surveys, and studies to identify the appropriate direction to ensure relevancy and continuous quality improvement of student life and wellness
Dean Anderson will report directly to the new Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management and Student Life, Dr. John Lewis.
"I look forward to working with the college community to build a robust Student Life and Wellness Program for our students that promotes student engagement and success," she shared.
Dean Anderson has served as UA-PTC's associate dean of students since July 2018. She joined the UA-PTC community in 2010, as director of student life and leadership. She has worked in higher education for more than 20 years, holding administrative positions focused on student engagement not only at UA-PTC, but also at the University of Central Arkansas and Hendrix College. Michelle's career in higher education has spanned a broad spectrum of student affairs including student conduct, residential education, leadership development, counseling, accessibility support services, testing and parent/family liaison.
While at UA-PTC, Michelle has served as Chair of the Cultural Diversity and Community Involvement Committee and advised Student Government Association. She has also served on the college's Strategic Planning Team and worked on the Criterion One Team for the college's 2019 Higher Learning Commission Report. Presently, she serves on the Student and Academic Affairs Council and leads the college's food pantry efforts.
She has previously served on the Rock Region Metro Strategic Planning Board, Clinton Health Matters: Central Arkansas Blueprint for Action Initiative and the Arkansas Substance Abuse Prevention Legislative Taskforce.
