Minority participation in sciences is focus at Feb. 7 event
The UA - Pulaski Tech and UA Little Rock Science Departments will join the Arkansas Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation (LSAMP) for a special event at UA-PTC Main Campus Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2023 to educate students about Arkansas LSAMP as well as to present information about scholarships, student support systems, programs and research opportunities, and the suitability of UA-LR as a choice transfer institution for STEM degrees.
The Arkansas Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (ARK-LSAMP) aims to increase the number of under-represented minority students in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines. It has a stated goal of increasing the pool of baccalaureate, masters, and doctoral degree graduates in STEM disciplines in Arkansas’ workforce. The program serves African Americans, Hispanic Americans, American Indians, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians, and Native Pacific Islanders.
The event will offer multiple opportunities to visit classrooms and to facilitate interaction with instructors and leadership from both institutions, including:

UA Little Rock faculty will be on hand in the Science Building Hallway for one-on-one student consultations 2:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. after classroom presentations. Anyone may attend the hallway 1-on-1 portion of the event.

The event will conclude with UA Little Rock LSAMP and UA-PTC LSAMP program leadership meeting 2.30 p.m. – 3.30 p.m. in Science Building Room 111. UA-PTC Dean of the School of Mathematics, Science and Allied Health Talayia Johnson will discuss LSAMP collaboration with UA Little Rock Senior LSAMP Students and UA-PTC LSAMP Students.
