UA - Pulaski Tech unveils first actions of long-term strategic plan
UA-PTC announced Feb. 2 that it is rolling out the first action items of its long-term strategic plan. The initiative will achieve operational effectiveness that will create clear pathways for UA-PTC student success.
“Priority No. 1 of UA-PTC’s new strategic plan is to cultivate student success, with the main objective to put students first,” said Dr. Margaret Ellibee, UA-PTC chancellor. “This reorganization is being implemented with the student’s best interests in mind. We want students to see positive change that will help focus and streamline their academic experience.”
By restructuring, the college will be better positioned to:
- Maintain accreditation
- Maximize the state’s Performance-Based Funding Model
- Keep tuition affordable
- Empower student success
- Operate more efficiently
Faculty and staff collaboration was integral to this process. A college task force surveyed the faculty and staff, many of whom then served on the special task force, specifically focusing on the realignment. All of this feedback was instrumental to informing the administration’s decision-making.
UA-PTC currently has more than 5,000 students enrolled in credited college hours. The college currently employs more than 300 full-time and part-time faculty and more than 220 full-time staff members.
UA-PTC is reducing the number of non-teaching deans from six down to three, as well as realigning academic divisions down from six to three. The college is reimagining departments and job titles; however, most of those impacted will not see a decrease in salary or in responsibilities. New academic divisions include:
- Division of Science and Mathematics
- Division of Technical and Professional Studies
- Division of Arts, Humanities and Social Studies
As a result of our realigned academic division structure, three non-teaching dean positions, as well as one staff position, have been eliminated. Those affected are encouraged to apply for other positions.
The college will save approximately $270,000 as a result of the restructuring.
