Student Learning Assessment Process at UA - Pulaski Tech

Sunday, September 24, 2017

Student Learning Assessment Defined:

Student Learning Assessment (SLA) at UA-PTC is the process of asking and answering questions that seek to align our stated intentions with documentable realities in terms of examining curricular and co-curricular student experiences in UA-PTC programs.

The Student Learning Assessment Process:

The process commonly used for Student Learning Assessment across college campuses is the same: it is a cyclical process consisting of four basic steps each step having its own set of procedures particular to each institution of higher education.

The cyclical process is given below.

  1. Establish clear, measurable expected outcomes of student learning
  2. Ensure that students have sufficient opportunities to achieve those outcomes
  3. Systematically gather, analyze, and interpret evidence to determine how well student learning matches the stated expectations
  4. Use the results of the analyses to understand and improve student learning.

Click on each step in the process diagram below to see the set of procedures contained within each step.

UA-PTC SLA Implementation Timeline

Curricular Programs and Courses:

The SLA process is unique to every faculty team and program and course. All of these SLA plans are detailed in the SLAP and DCARP Forms posted online. Reporting of results occurs as per each individual course’s and program’s plan: SLAP and DCARP Forms. Below is the roll out plan per program for Curricular Programs during the time period of January, 2017, through December, 2018. The timeline chart details the implementation of assessment across all programs and courses for the time period of January, 2017, through December, 2018.

Co-curricular Programs:

A Co-curricular Programs assessment implementation plan was drafted in accordance with the College’s HLC Assessment Academy participation and detailed in a Quality Improvement Plan (QIP). From January, 2017, through September, 2020, the HLC Assessment Academy “Away Team” will oversee the implementation of said plan.

A detailed implementation timeline will be provided here, once the “Away Team” has developed the timeline, and it has been approved by the College’s Quality Council.
