Mayo Johnson is a native of Little Rock, AR and has a daughter named Maya Rose. He is Assistant Teaching Professor of Computer Science at the University of Arkansas - Pulaski Tech where he teaches Information Security and has worked as a Faculty member since 2001. He graduated from Hall High School and has a Bachelors Degree in Computer Information Systems from the University of Central Arkansas and Masters Degree in Computer Information Management from Webster University. He worked at Acxiom Corporation as System Analyst/Administrator and worked as a Technology Consultant in London, UK where he also studied International Information Management at Regents University.

Mayo has University Teaching Certifications from the Association of College and University Educators and Johns Hopkins University and also CompTIA Security+, A+ and Web Development Certifications.

He’s a former Department Chair of Computer Information Systems and former Chair of Faculty Senate and the Committee on Faculty Involvement. Mayo has received the UA-PTC Diversity Award and Faculty Star Award. He is a member of the Cultural Diversity and Community Involvement Committee and the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Task Force. He’s a member of the Faculty Promotion and Rank Committee, Faculty Grievance Committee and has served on various search committees. He’s also been a speaker on the topic of International work and study at Regents University in London, UK and University of Ghana and Osu schools in Accra, Ghana West Africa.

Mayo is a former Chair of the Little Rock Racial and Cultural Diversity Commission (RCDC) and World Fest. He also moderated a series of Community Forums on Race and Culture with Little Rock Nine member Minnijean Brown Trickey during the 50th Anniversary of the desegregation of Little Rock Central High School in 2007. He collaborated as moderator with Dr. Michael Eric Dyson r for the UA-PTC Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. virtual event in 2021 themed Equity and Social Justice in the Pandemic. He worked as moderator with Judge Wendell Griffen and Judge Tjuana Byrd for the UA-PTC Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. virtual event in 2022 themed Inequity in Social Justice. He worked as moderator with Little Rock Nine member Elizabeth Eckford and Dr. Patricia Griffen for the UA-PTC Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. event in 2023 themed Inequity in Mental Health.

He worked with RCDC and the Little Rock Board of Directors in the area of policy development as Commission Chair by coordinating efforts to produce data that shows the demographic composition of all City Boards and Commissions with the goal of inclusiveness in appointing citizens that reflect the diversity of the city.

He has worked with STEM organizations. He is a Life Member and International Affairs Member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. He’s also a Mentor with the Little Rock School District and the Dunbar Historic Neighborhood Association. He loves traveling and community service.
